Youth panel at Lakota Food Summit

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Young people from around the state participated in a youth panel at the Lakota Food Summit in Rapid City. All of them were hand-selected because of their contributions to food ethics within their communities.

The panel was presented with several questions about ethical food production, sustainability, and food stability. They shared ideas about creating a more sustainable and people-friendly food culture.

Each of the students on the panel are members of a tribe within South Dakota and were also able to discuss the importance of food within their culture and tribe. Along with that they were able to discuss the importance of preserving sacred land.

The event was put on to encourage youth to lead change for both past and future generations.

The Lakota Food Summit wraps up on Thursday, with events going from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
