Youth City Council brings “Cheer for the Holidays” to those in need

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Members of the Youth City Council met in the lobby of city hall prior to their meeting to pack gifts for those in need of some cheer this holiday season.

The “Cheer for the Holidays” project was supported by the council’s mental health committee, and was an opportunity for them to give back to the community. Members began working on the project November 16th and received support and donations from around the community.

“How you think and how you feel can determine a lot of what you do. So if you want to do good, I think you have to feel good first, and small things like this can really help sometimes,” said mental health committee lead, Hunter Herzog.

The bags included candy, toys, hot cocoa, and other holiday goodies. The youth council made 100 gift bags that will be distributed to students at Stevens High School and members who donated. People who requested bags can pick them up on December 16th…the rest will be donated to charities.
