Yoga for Kids teaches body awareness and mindfulness
Kids Yoga is specially designed to get the tiny tots more involved in physical activity. More importantly, it is also meant to teach them to be more aware of their own body, as well as to develop their focus and relaxation.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — In addition to a career as a speech pathologist, Tiffany Trask also teaches yoga to adults and children.
It’s in her wheelhouse – making yoga accessible to kids from diverse backgrounds and all abilities.
Tiffany Trask, YOGA Instructor and Owner of Beats Unique, says, “Just giving all kids an outlet or activity they can be a part of, so it just requires you know making a few adjustments here and there, things like visual schedules, tangible items, things like that – make it more accessible to everybody.”
Trask says the basis for kids yoga is to teach them tools to be successful as they age, like breathing exercises to help sift through emotions.
Trask says, “I think it teaches kids kind of those things that we really want them to have, you know just body awareness, self regulation, mindfulness- how to use their breath because that is something they always have with them – it’s a tool they can always use to calm down.”
To help make the practice of yoga more kid friendly, Trask keeps the classing moving while still incorporating the overall intention of the practice – relieve stress and improve their overall health and helping children develop into a more well-balanced individual in the long run.
“And I think yoga, especially yoga for kids, really ties into that kind of ability that they have to just be present and you know enjoy whatever they are doing,” adds Trask.
The kids yoga classes begin at three years old. Beats Unique is offering summer camps and a family yoga class.
