YFS Summer Food Program

In an effort to reduce the food insecurity in the community, local partnerships are offering summer meals for free.

Youth and Family Services summer food program will be serving up free meals Monday through Friday this summer to all children, ages 1-18 years at 410 East Monroe Street. No registration is required.

Kid friendly food will be served for breakfast hours between 8:00 am – 9:00 am and lunch from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.

The summer meals begin May 28th and run through August 21st.

Thanks to funding by a grant from the Black Hills Area Community Foundation and Rapid City Collective Impact and a partnership with Meals on Wheels, adults 60 years or older and adults who bring in children may also eat free.

Darcie Decker, Community Outreach with YFS, says, “We saw a difference in having the adults being able to come in and eat instead of just sitting there watching their child. They get to sit down and eat and have a meal, participate with their children in their little family setting – which was wonderful to see.”

Three other local sponsors will be offering a summer food program, including the Club for Boys, YMCA, and RCAS.

Volunteers from the Altrusa group will be helping with the meals at YFS this summer.

Backpacks full of food from Feeding South Dakota will also be available for kids who receive meals to take home on Fridays.
