Yearly statue clothing placement coming to an end

RAPID CITY, S.D. —  With the winter season winding down, city officials want to remind the public that the time to put winter clothing on the downtown president statues is coming to an end.

The last day to place clothing on the statues is Sunday, Mar. 15.

This project was initiated by Mayor Steve Allender in November of 2015. Allender establishing a four-month window for the winter clothes to be placed starting in November.

The purpose of the clothing is to bring awareness of the homeless issue in the community and lend a helping hand to those in need. This is the fifth winter season that Rapid City has authorized placement of clothing items on the statues.
