Wyoming Highway Patrol seizes $150M in fentanyl during traffic stop
LARAMIE COUNTY, Wyo. — A routine traffic stop on Interstate 80 east of Cheyenne turned into a major drug bust for Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The trooper stopped a 2021 Hyundai Kona for speeding on July 27 and became suspicious after hearing “implausible travel plans” from the occupant.
After detaining the driver, a WHP K-9 alerted to odors. A subsequent vehicle search located 24 pounds of Fentanyl, a potent opiate fatal in even small amounts, inside the vehicle.
The driver, Diego J. Aguilar-Valdovinos, was arrested. He faces charges of felony transportation, distribution, and possession of narcotic drugs.
Wyoming Highway Patrol says the quantity of Fentanyl seized has a street value of roughly $150 million.
