Woman in Box Elder homicide has been identified

The victim of Wednesday afternoon’s homicide in Box Elder has been identified as 61 year-old Shirley Bartolotta of Box Elder. The suspect, Jamie Hayes Prince, remains in custody and is being charged with first degree
murder. He is being held without bond.

BOX ELDER, S.D.- A woman is dead after a suspected murder in Box Elder.

Shortly after 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, Box Elder Police Department officers arrived at Valley Village Mobile Home Park, located at 240 N. Ellsworth Rd., to investigate reports of a possible assault.

Police LightsThey found a deceased female who has not yet been identified, and then located a male suspect, who had attempted to flee. 43-year-old Jamie Hayes Prince of Box Elder was arrested for first degree murder and transported to Pennington County Jail. At the time of writing, Prince is awaiting his initial appearance and is being held without bond.

Box Elder Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, and South Dakota Highway Patrol all worked together in the investigation, and Box Elder and Rapid City Fire Departments also responded to the scene.
