Woman killed in motorcycle accident near Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. — A motorcycle accident on South Dakota Highway 79, northeast of Hot Springs, resulted in one death late Saturday night.

Preliminary reports indicates that a 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle was southbound on Highway 79 when the motorcycle struck a deer that ran into the road. The 50-year-old female driver was thrown from the motorcycle into the southbound driving lane. She was then struck by a southbound 2019 Honda Pilot, which could not avoid hitting her.

The motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead on at the scene.

The 70-year-old male driver of the Honda was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The names of the people involved have not been released, pending notification of family members.
