Woman identified in fatal two-vehicle crash west of Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.D. — A woman from Mina, South Dakota has been identified as the person who died in a two-vehicle crash last Friday morning five miles west of Columbia.

Paula Kleinsasser, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene. Isaac Abeln, 41, received serious non-life threatening injuries, and he was airlifted to an Aberdeen hospital.

Around 10:13 a.m., Kleinsasser was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey that was traveling northbound on 391st Avenue when she failed to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection with 123rd Street. The vehicle was struck in the intersection by Abeln in a 2005 Peterbilt Conventional 379 semi-truck, which was westbound on 123rd Street.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

THe South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this time.
