Wild Bill Days kicks off with DockDogs

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Wild Bill Days has been a tradition in Deadwood for over 30 years, in honor of the infamous Wild Bill.

They have deadwood re-enactors, tons of food, entertainment, and a concert every evening.

They kicked off the weekend-long festival on Friday with the dock dogs.

Mans best friend was welcome to join the competition, where dogs run across a dock and jump into a pool. Whichever dog makes it the furthest wins.

The competition continues tomorrow and dogs will compete to jump the highest.

“Coming here, I mean just two weeks ago there was snow on the ground and now we have bright sunshine and a lot of great stuff going on in town and people are coming out ,they’ve got smiles on their faces, it’s the kids, it’s the adults, everyone is having a good time,” said Lee Harstad; the executive director of the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce.

The festival will go through the end of Saturday.
