Where are you allowed to put political signs in Rapid City?

Campaign Signs 1RAPID CITY, S.D. – What signs?: Campaign signs are the main issue, but all signs have to follow the same rules.

Where can’t I put signs?: Signs are not allowed to be placed in boulevards (the area between the sidewalk and the road, intersections, state right of ways, parks, and medians.)

Why can’t I put signs there?: Placing signs close to the road can impede the line of sight of drivers.

What happens if I have a sign in a restricted area?: That depends. If a sign is placed in a restricted area and someone files a complaint or a city compliance officer sees it, the sign will be removed. After repeated violations and multiple warnings, you could face a fine up to $500 and/or up to 30 days in jail.

So, where can I put signs?: You can put signs anywhere within your property line.

Are there any other restrictions I should know about?: Regardless of location, you are not allowed to have any signs larger than 32 square feet and eight feet tall. You should also remember to take down your signs after they are no longer relevant for what the sign is promoting.
