“What were you wearing?” : sexual assault exhibit

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Zonta, a women’s advocacy group presented its Sexual Assault Survivors Exhibit Monday as part of their 16 Days of Activism. The exhibit is called “What were you wearing?”

The display is right next door to American Eagle in the Rushmore Mall, and it displays victims’ clothing. Each outfit represents a story, detailing what that person was wearing when they were assaulted.

The point is to end the stigma because people often think that certain clothing provokes the crime.

“It kind of implies that the victim is somehow to blame for their own assault and we just wanted to illustrate that, that question is not a valid question,” said Mary Kaiser the advocacy committee chairman with Zonta.

The display will be up until December 10th.
