Western Dakota Tech and State Legislators discuss technical future

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Western Dakota Tech Board of Trustees met virtually with West River legislators to share updates about the school and the future of tech education and careers in the region. A big topic of discussion was possible curriculums in which to invest. Lawmakers shared the Top 30 Hot Careers of South Dakota, in which Western Dakota Tech has programs in 20. WDT President Ann Bolman says keeping an open dialogue with legislators is beneficial for the economy, allowing students to get into the workforce quickly.

“Legislators are awesome partners with Western Dakota Tech because they have a very broad view about the issues in South Dakota as well as their communities, and so we can make our economy throughout our region stronger with our legislators,” Bolman said.

The technical school says there is currently a 99 percent job placement rate based on data collected six months after graduation. Bolman says at the forefront, the school remains dedicated to keeping its classes tightly aligned to South Dakota career openings. No formal action was taken during the meeting.
