Wellfully youth donate toys to children in the hospital

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A group of youth from Wellfully donated toys to children at Regional Health today.

The group might have been small, but the smiles and impact were huge for children who are spending their holidays in the hospital instead of at home.

Wellfully volunteers say they enjoy giving back to the community.

“We had a fantastic day today, we had a donation from Wellfully,” said Valerie Harmon, Clinical Resource Nurse. “They came and brought some stuffed animals to our patients on pediatrics and we really appreciate it. It is a tough time to be in the hospital, but it’s equally tough when it’s this time of year. So with them bringing the stuffed animals up here, it just brought joy to the kids that we have and a blessing. It was nice to see them come up here.”

Wellfully is the only residential group care home and residential addiction recovery program for adolescents in Western South Dakota. They help boys and girls, ages 10-17 — whether they are suffering the effects of addiction, adjusting to the challenges of behavioral issues, or just feeling alone.

The impact made by Wellfully was felt not only by those receiving gifts, but also by the volunteers.

They agreed that helping and seeing others so happy made them feel better about themselves and was something they planned to continue doing.
