Week-long food distribution at The Hope Center

RAPID CITY, S.D. -The YMCA is partnering with The Hope Center to make sure people all over the community have access to a meal each day this week.

A crew will be set up outside of The Hope Center to distribute bagged lunches with sandwiches, fruit, and milk for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Both the YMCA and The Hope Center distribute food to kids, senior citizens, and people in need on a normal basis. With current circumstances, they decided to join forces to provide a one-stop-shop for people that may need food during the pandemic. Food Distribution 2

Each day this week they will be set up from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“It’s time like these where people really put the collective shoulder to the wheel and work hard to meet community needs and this too is a great example of partnering up. I know there are a lot of great agencies out there that are doing the same thing,” says YMCA executive director, Roger Gallimore.

As soon as the distribution location opened on Monday, 60 people were lined up to receive a meal. The YMCA came prepared with 150 meals for the day.

If businesses continue to shut down, the YMCA says it may extend this effort for longer than one week.
