This Day in History: On May 8th, 1888: The Rapid City Weather Service was established and began taking daily weather observations.

Good morning everyone, WOW! What a day Saturday. I literally mean this when I say this statement; you could literally split the state at the river, and have two different weather stories.

Here are the storm reports from Saturday. West River had all the wind, but not much precipitation. East river however, had some hail, and three reported funnel clouds.Knbn Earth Borders And Roads

As a matter of fact, here are the three reports. There were two in Brown county, and one in Spink County.

In terms of hail, quarter sized hail was reported in Gettysburg, as well as, Tolstoy.

In regards to the wind gust from Saturday, everyone in the NC1 Viewing Area reported gusts.Dma Max Wind Gusts 24 Hours

The big winner was Buffalo, WY at 76 MPH. Rapid City and Pine Ridge reported 47 MPH, everyone else with the exception of Faith, saw gusts in the 30s & 40s.

TODAY: Precipitation chances pick up in the afternoon hours, otherwise we will stay partly to mostly cloudy. Just keep the raingear with you just in case you get under a shower or two.

In terms of temperature, much cooler today as compared to Saturday. We had a high of 84 in Rapid City, and today we’ll drop to the upper 60s with low 60s in North Central Wyoming and 70s from Faith down to Pine Ridge.
