UPDATE: Bovee fire nearly contained

BOVEE, Neb. — The Bovee Fire now stands at 18,861 acres and is 94% contained.

This is a slight reduction in total acreage from the report yesterday, the discrepancy caused by more precise mapping today.

Firelines now surround nearly the entirety of the fire, with the exception of a few short segments which firefighters will prioritize today.

There will be a Community Information Meeting on the Bovee Fire today at 3:00 pm at the Halsey Community Center, 507 Highway 2, Halsey, NE. The public is invited. The meeting will also be streamed here.

The efforts will begin shifting primarily to strengthening the fireline, cooling the last hotspots, mop-up, patrol, and hazard mitigation.

There will no longer be a night shift of firefighters, as “there is no longer a need,” according to Incident Commander Dan Dallas.

All evacuations on the Bovee Fire have been lifted. The area surrounding the wildfire remains a no-fly zone.
