Waste tire amnesty disposal program: Rapid City landfill

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The City of Rapid City Solid Waste will be hosting a free waste-tire disposal program for residential customers in the Rapid City landfill service area.

Waste car and truck tires will be accepted at the Rapid City Landfill beginning Monday, Oct. 8 through Saturday, Oct. 13 during regular landfill hours, 7:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

No commercial tire businesses are eligible for free disposal of waste tires.

A commercial tire business is defined as an entity that derives all or a portion of their income from a process that produces waste tires, which includes automobile/truck salvage yards, tire repair or recycling, or any similar business.

Residents are encouraged to minimize the number of tires still on the rim to maximize the number of tires available for disposal. While there is no specific limit to the number of tires per vehicle, customers shall be responsible for assisting in the unloading and proper placement of tires delivered to the Rapid City Landfill.

Funding for this program is from a grant from the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

DENR has approved a grant for $60,000 to the Rapid City landfill for the collection and proper disposal of waste tires.
