Wagner man sentenced to 35 years in prison for sexual abuse

WAGNER, S.D. — A Wagner man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for sexually abusing a child.

Jeremy Aungie, 33, was sentenced on Aug. 19. Aungie was indicted in June of 2018 for the charges and found guilty by a federal jury a year later in Sioux Falls.

The conviction stems from Aungie repeatedly abused a child from the time she was eight years old until she turned 13. Prosecutors say the sexual abuse was often accompanied by physical abuse such as hitting, slapping, pulling hair and choking.

This case was investigated by Yankton Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Aungie was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service
