Vigil held for Sunday morning shooting victim
RAPID CITY, S.D.– A candlelight vigil was held for a young man who was shot and killed outside of Teddy’s Sports Grill and Nightclub in downtown Rapid City.
Officers described the scene as chaotic, with several witnesses around. The victim, described by law enforcement as a young man, was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
A large group gathered in his honor on Sunday night, outside of where the shooting took place. Candles were lit and placed in front of a memorial where family members spoke about their lost loved one.
“He was loved by so many people. He made an impact on so many people’s lives, no matter where you met him,” childhood friend of the victim Lisa Good Iron recalled. ” I mean, so many people were impacted by this. It’s heartbreaking. It wasn’t right.”
Among those also in attendance were friends, who came to show their support.
“You know, this gun violence. It needs to end, because it’s not right. It’s not right. It’s taken the wrong people. They’re not toys. They’re not something to be played with,” she said. “We need to change the laws if we can’t change ourselves. Maybe that will help us and direct us on the right path.”
Police have not identified the victim, nor have they given a description of the suspect. Investigators are hoping any witnesses who may have left the scene will call and tell them what they saw.
