Video game could allow bonding with animals in trial program

The Pokémon Go craze seems far from over. Even those on four legs are getting involved.

Near Indianapolis, a new trend involves pairing Pokémon Go players with shelter animals. The idea is to let dogs walk with you as you play. 300 people are signed on so far.

The program could be coming to Rapid City. The Humane Society of the Black Hills will hold a trial run August 1 at Founders Park. Anyone with a valid photo ID can walk a dog. Humane Society Resource Development Director Kaitlyn Janek says four dogs will be available to gauge community interest. She says to look out for the transport van and dogs wearing ‘Adopt Me’ vests.

More information on that trial is expected later this week.
