Victim identified in fatal hit-and-run Friday night

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The man killed in a fatal hit and run crash Friday night was identified Monday by family members and Rapid City Police.

The Rapid City man allegedly responsible for the hit and run crash made his first appearance in court Monday morning.  Zachary Fegueroa, 25, of Rapid City faces charges of vehicular homicide, DUI, hit and run, and possession of marijuana.

On Friday Dec.6,  the Rapid City Police Department responded to a fatal hit and run accident at the intersection of East Boulevard and East North Street.

Family members of the victim, 34-year-old Joseph Martinez, appeared in court for the hearing. They tell NewsCenter1 that Martinez was from Rapid City and leaves behind a wife and five children between the ages of 2 months and 12 years old. His family says Martinez was a hard-working family man, with a sense of humor and positive outlook on life.

Fegueroa faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of vehicular homicide. He remains in the Pennington County jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
