Victim identified in fatal crash near Philip

PHILIP, S.D. — A 50-year-old Belle Fourche man has been identified as the victim in a crash near Philip last Sunday morning.

Sheldon Mead of Belle Fourche was the driver of a 2004 Ford F150 pickup that was northbound on 212th Ave when he attempted to turn towards the east ditch but collided with a southbound 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.

Mead was pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers in his pickup – 59-year-old William Larive of Box Elder and an unnamed 12-year-old boy – suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries.

The two men in the Dodge – 22-year-old Allan McDonnell and 17-year-old Rylan McDonnell, both of Quinn, were not injured.

None of the people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
