VFW Post 1273 host appreciation dinner for first responders
RAPID CITY — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1273 hosted a free spaghetti appreciation dinner for local first responders and their families Monday night.
The event, which was closed to the public, was dedicated to saying “thank you” to law enforcement and those who never know if they’ll be making it home when they leave for work.
VFW members say they understand firsthand the sacrifice it takes to keep a community, and a nation safe.
“They put their life on the line for us and who better to understand that than veterans and the spouses and caregivers of veterans as well and so we just wanted to show them that we support them and that we appreciate them and that we stand behind them” said VFW Canteen manager Bridget Swier.
JJ Kent, a local musician, donated his time for the cause. He provided live entertainment for the brave men and women of the city. Leftovers were boxed and taken to stations around the city for those who did not get a chance to stop in.
