Veterans Day appreciation event held in Custer

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Veterans Day in Custer is a special tradition that brings the whole community out to celebrate and show their gratitude. High school and middle school students came together to the high school auditorium to play music, hand out roses to all vets in attendance, and to simply just honor the veterans in the Black Hills on their special day.

“This is a very festive and very joyous time to say thank you to all the veterans for all they have done.” Said Kevin Morello a member of the South Dakota American Legion “Their sacrifices and so as you can hear from the noise the kids were really excited. I think it was a fantastic program, it is amazing what this Custer community can do. It’s definitely patriotic and I was just really happy to be a part of it.”

This is the 25th year that Custer has hosted this Veterans Day event, and this time it was also a celebration of the American Legion’s 100th anniversary.
