Veteran Owned Small Business Market helps support local military families

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Uptown Rapid hosted the Veteran Owned Small Business Market, giving veteran and military family owned businesses a chance to shine on Saturday, April 2.

April is the month of the military child, so special events like this one help to bring awareness and extra support to those who have served. Military business owners say that service can make ownership more difficult, because frequent moves require them to rebuild their following and adapt their products to their new home.

Products ranged from cutting boards to coffee beans, with a goal of building the friendships and contacts that are essential for success as business owners and as military families.

Lennes Creations“My biggest passion is to really help out the military community. Vets, spouses, we have a few kids here selling,” says Mylene Berardino, owner of Lenne’s Custom Creations. “The biggest thing is community and helping each other out, and using your resources.”

The next Veteran Owned Small Business Market will be April 23 at the Ellsworth Air Force Base BX from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and you can sign up here.
