Vehicle struck by train in Sturgis, driver OK

UPDATE (01/24/20 12:30 p.m.): According to authorities, the unidentified Lemmon man whose Jeep was struck by a freight train Thursday night in Sturgis, didn’t see or hear the train coming. This despite reports that the train was using lights and sounding its horn immediately prior to the accident.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to Monument Health Sturgis for minor injuries, and is not expected to face charges for the accident.


STURGIS, S.D. — Thursday evening, around 6 p.m. a train struck a passenger vehicle near Ball Park Road in Sturgis.

The male driver of the vehicle hit by the train was not seriously injured.

Following the accident, traffic was halted at multiple Sturgis locations due to the train being at a standstill.
