VA hosting resource fair for at-risk veterans

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a Veteran Stand Down and Resource Fair to help the local veteran population

The Stand Down is open to all veterans and their family members at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rushmore Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Goodwill of the Great Plains will be providing a meal at the event.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Black Hills Health Care System (BHHCS) is hosting the Stand Down event to reach out and help veterans who are homeless or at-risk for homelessness. Veterans will find helpful information and on-the-spot services from the VA BHHCS.

VA Black Hills staff will offer basic health screenings and flu shots, and stylists from The Man Salon will be offering haircuts. Veterans can ask questions and receive immediate assistance on VA benefits, special programs, legal assistance and health care enrollment. To help prepare for winter, personal items such as cold weather clothing, blankets, hygiene kits and duffel bags will be available.

All veterans are invited to attend and there is no charge for any of the services provided. Veterans who have not previously enrolled with the VA are requested to bring a copy of their military discharge papers, DD 214 or Vet Card, to the Stand Down.
