USD alum Chris Nilsen wins silver in Olympics pole vault

TOKYO — University of South Dakota alumnus Chris Nilsen won silver in the pole vault with a personal best of 19 feet, seven inches on Tuesday.

His win at his Olympic debut is the highest pole vault finish by an American since 2004.

Nilsen is a 2020 graduate of USD and is the University’s fourth Olympian.

Armand Duplantis of Sweden won the Olympic gold medal in the pole vault.
