CUSTER COUNTY, S.D. — Authorities say that the wildfire near Jewel Cave is now about 25 percent contained.

Officials estimate that the fire has burned more than 120 acres. It’s located approximately seven miles south of Jewel Cave.

Federal, state and volunteer fire department units have been working throughout the afternoon to control it. It was initially reported at 12:28 p.m.

Crews say they hope to have it under control by tomorrow’s end of shift.

Although the cause is still under investigation, it’s believed to have been from a lightning strike during yesterday’s storms.
