UPDATE: Suspect taken into custody during Rapid City double homicide investigation

UPDATE: (09/04/20) — The Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office continue to work around the clock investigating the double homicide that occurred in the 800 block of Meadowlark Dr. on August 24.

Evidence that was recovered at the scene that was obtained through the investigation had led to the arrest of 36-year old Arnson Absolu of Bronx, Ny.

Absolu was located in New York City and has been taken into custody for charges relating to First Degree Murder of Charles Red Willow and Ashley Nagy in Rapid City.

The New York Police Department, Manchester Police Department in New Hampshire, New York District Attorney’s Office, Bronx District Attorney’s office, FBI, ATF, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and U.S. Marshals Service all assisted in the investigation.

Absolu is currently in custody in a New York jail and awaiting extradition to South Dakota.

The RCPD and the PCSO continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the homicide.

UPDATE (08/26/20 – 9:30 a.m.): The deceased have been identified as 29-year-old Ashley Nagy of Greely, CO and 26-year-old Charles Redwillow of Rapid City.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Police Department is currently investigating an overnight shooting incident as a double homicide following a report of a disturbance on the 800 block of East Meadowlark Road.

At around 10:40 p.m. on Monday, August 24th, police were dispatched to the 800 block of East Meadowlark Road for a report of a disturbance in progress. While police were en-route to the location, the original caller reported hearing a number of gunshots ring out from the location of the disturbance.

On arrival, officers located a vehicle parked in the parking lot of the reported address. Inside the vehicle were two deceased individuals, who appeared to have died due to multiple gunshot wounds.

The identities of the deceased are being withheld until proper next-of-kin notification can be made.

Since the initial report, police have been working to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. At this point in the investigation, police believe the shooting victims knew the shooter.

Preliminary evidence has given reason to explore a potential drug connection in relation to this incident.

RCPD detectives are actively working to follow up on every lead generated in the investigation. Anyone with any information about the shooting should contact Detective Barry Young at 394-4134.
