RAPID CITY, S.D. — A suspect shot by a Rapid City police officer Wednesday evening has died, according to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office.

The man was taken to Monument Health Rapid City hospital with “serious life-threatening injuries” after an exchange of gunfire in what Rapid City Police Chief Karl Jegeris called a routine traffic stop.

The shooting is currently under investigation by the Division of Criminal Investigation. A full report is typically issued within 30 days of an incident, according to Bormann.
