UPDATE: Highway 16 now open eastbound, no travel advisory in place WY State Line to Hill City

UPDATE (4/6/21 @ 9:22 p.m.): Custer County Emergency Management has advised that Highway 16 eastbound is now open, however, a no travel advisory is in place between the Wyoming State Line and Hill City due to deteriorating winter weather conditions.

CUSTER COUNTY, S.D. — Highway 16 Westbound has been closed starting at the golf course due to a big rig accident close to Jewel Cave.

Custer County Emergency Management posted on Tuesday that the road will be close until further notice.

Only local traffic will be allowed, and no one will be allowed through the canyon.
