Flags at half-staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day, former Rep. Kay Davis-Sturzenbecher

PIERRE, S.D. — Governor Kristi Noem ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol from sunrise until sundown on Wednesday, May 12 to honor Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Flags will also be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise until sundown on Saturday, May 15.

South Dakota traditionally recognizes Peace Officers Memorial Day on the Wednesday in Police Week.

President Biden has proclaimed Saturday, May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Governor Noem also ordered flags at half-staff on Wednesday, May 12 in honor of former State Representative Kathryn “Kay” Davis-Sturzenbecher, who served as a state rep. from 1995 to 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Kay on Wednesday at St. Therese Church in Sioux Falls.
