UPDATE (4/18/21 @ 8:30 p.m.): The Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department said in a Facebook post that crews made a thorough pass on the fire line Sunday and sprayed down smoldering areas before turning land back over to property owners.

The fire was 1,990 acres with a 15.5 mile fire line. No injuries were reported and no structures lost.

HARDING COUNTY, S.D. — Crews in Harding County are working to contain a grass fire southeast of Buffalo currently estimated at six to seven miles long and one mile wide.

Buffalo, Reva, Ludlow, Harding, Redig, Bowman N.D., Castlerock, Bison, Prairie City, Lemmon, and Belle Fourche units are on-scene, among others.

The fire is burning on multiple private ranch units, and terrain – including multiple creek crossings – is making it difficult for fire crews to work around.
