Two St. Thomas More seniors sign National Letters of Intent
Kandolin will compete in golf at SDSU; Gorman will run for the University of Sioux Falls
RAPID CITY, S.D. – Alex Kandolin from St. Thomas More has been one of the top golfers in Class ‘A’ over the past few years. Now she’s ready to take her talents to the next level.
Kandolin signed a letter of intent on Tuesday to play women’s golf next year at South Dakota State University in Brookings.
Kandolin twice placed fourth overall at the State ‘A’ Golf Tournament in 2016 and 2017. Last year, she finished runner-up at state. Kandolin lost to Payson Birkeland of Belle Fourche by just one stroke.
The St. Thomas More senior is excited about the opportunity to compete at the Division I level.
“So at first I wasn’t thinking in-state,” Kandolin said. “Then I met with the coach and I talked it over with my family and stuff. It was just the best fit for me. I really liked the team. I liked the atmosphere. I’m really excited.”
Morgan Gorman from St. Thomas More also put pen to paper on Tuesday and signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track at the University of Sioux Falls.
Gorman finished in the top 15 at both the Black Hills Conference Cross Country Meet and the Region 5A meet back in 2017.
She also competes in both the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter run during the track season.
“Doug Petersen, the coach [at USF], his philosophy is every runner has a position on the team,” Gorman said. “That position might not be the fastest runner, but it could be something else and that’s always been how my high school team is. That was really reassuring to me going into college knowing that no matter what, I will have a position on the team.
