Two dead, one injured in Hutchinson County crash

SCOTLAND, S.D. –  Two people died and another person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night north of Scotland, South Dakota, around 30 miles northwest of Yankton.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said that preliminary information indicates a northbound Kenworth 2800 semi-truck pulling a trailer crossed the center line of Highway 25 and struck a southbound Dodge Grand Caravan Minivan.

The 49-year-old female driver and 71-year-old female passenger of the minivan were pronounced dead at the scene. The 72-year-old female passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Only the female passenger was wearing a seatbelt.

The 23-year-old male driver of the semi-truck was not injured. Charges are pending against him.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
