Two arrested following Saturday afternoon Amber Alert

CabanseyPIERRE, S.D. — 37-year-old Katrina Seay and 40-year-old Matthew Cabaniss of Rapid City were arrested in Mitchell Saturday afternoon by Davidson County Deputies and South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Around 1 p.m. Saturday, an Amber Alert was issued for Seay’s two children –  nine-year-old Zyriah and five-year-old Jeremiah – after she reportedly took them from their guardians residence in Custer.

The Amber Alert identified Katrina Seay as the non-custodial parent.

Seay was driving a 2014 green Chevrolet Cruze sedan, which was spotted on Highway 44 heading toward Interstate 90. South Dakota Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies followed the vehicle eastbound on I-90 accompanied by a Highway Patrol airplane.

For safety reasons, no traffic stop was initiated.

The vehicle took the Mitchell exit and a short pursuit followed. The suspect drove northbound on Highway 37 before turning off on a dirt road and heading to a residence on 245th Street.

Both children were found safe and transported back to their guardians residence in Custer.

Charges are pending with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.
