Runners and trotters brave chilly morning to keep tradition going

RAPID CITY, S.D. – People in Rapid City burned a few calories Thanksgiving morning before heading to the feast.

The Black Hills Runner Club hosted the 38th Annual Turkey Trot 5K at the Old Storybook Island Shelter in Rapid City. Temperatures were around the high 30s Thanksgiving morning, but that didn’t stop participants from suiting up in Turkey hats and taking on the trot anyway.

Runners participated in two different races. One was for people who just wanted to walk and participate, while the other was meant for those racers who truly enjoy the competition.

Gary Miller, with Black Hills Runner Club, says about 1,700 people participated in last year’s 5K.
