Troops receive free Christmas Trees at Ellsworth Air Force Base, Friday

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. — Families of airmen at the Ellsworth Air Force Base were able to collect a free Christmas tree at base’s Outdoor Recreation building.

The 200 trees are donated by farmers through the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation. FedEx is able to deliver the trees, as a way of saying thanks, airmen were then available to help unload and pack trees into vehicles for the families.

This is the twelfth year of the program and it focuses on bringing cheer to those whose family members are deployed during the holidays.

“It’s so important to have this awesome event,” says  Chelsey Mastalski,  Outdoor Recreation Manager. “Just because it does provide all of that support to those who are missing their loved one at home for the holidays because that’s the roughest time you know that they’re going to be gone.”

Also eligible for a free tree were soldiers South Dakota National Guard soldiers and Douglas High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets.
