Trial underway for Bison man accused of 2017 kidnapping, rape

BISON, SD — The trial is underway for the Bison man accused of kidnapping and raping a woman at gunpoint in Nov. 2017.

Richard Seidel, 57, of Bison is charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree rape, commission of a felony while armed, and aggravated assault. First-degree kidnapping carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

According to a Perkins County Sheriff’s Office report, on Nov. 2, 2017, a woman told a deputy she had been zip-tied, taken to Seidel’s home, and raped at gunpoint. Seidel was arrested shortly after.

Following an initial court appearance, Seidel posted a $1 million dollar cash bond.

Seidel’s trial began Monday with 4th Circuit Court Judge Eric Strawn presiding. Trial is scheduled through July 31.
