Tree lighting brings many to Main Street Square
RAPID CITY, S.D. — And with a flick of the giant switch, Rapid City’s Main Street Square lighting up for the holidays. The centerpiece was the giant Christmas Tree, of course.
Hundreds turned out for the big event which was broadcast on NewsCenter1.
Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender says that after a rough year-and-a-half, he’s starting to notice a change at events like this.
“What I’m noticing is that people are friendlier now,” Allender said. “Last year was a low about this time, and these folks here are just happy to be outside, they’re happy to be with each other. And what I’ve noticed when I go out in public, people are more talkative, they’re friendlier, so I think that’s a great sign for Rapid City.”
The event was followed by the Parade of Lights down Main Street and St. Joseph Street.
