Transgender bill passes SD House vote after Tuesday night ‘smoke out’

PIERRE, S.D. — House Bill 1076, which would ban people from changing the sex designation on their birth certificates, has now passed out of the House by a 39 yea to 31 nay vote. The bill was “smoked out” of committee and placed on the calendar for floor debate late Wednesday night.

LGBTQ advocates have decried the effort as an attack on transgender people.
