Transformer blowout causes traffic lights to go out on Rapid City’s west side

UPDATE (11:45 a.m.): Black Hills Energy is reporting that they have restored power to the about 693 customers that experienced a power outage in the Southwest area of Rapid City.

According to BHE, the outage began around 9:30 a.m. due to equipment failure at a Black Hills Energy electric substation located near the cemetery on Sheridan Lake Road.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department is reporting a blown transformer on the city’s west side has left several intersections with inoperable traffic signals.

Motorists are asked to treat these intersections as four-way stops while utility crews work to resolve the situation.
