Toys For Tots hands out 1,000 books to children
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Toys for Tots, along with Feeding South Dakota handed out children’s books Wednesday at the Central States Fairgrounds, part of its literacy program.
1,000 books were handed out as people came to receive their food.
Volunteers walked to each car, asking if they had any kids or any relatives who could use a book for summer reading.
Crissy Davies, Public Service Director for Homeslice Media, said “Nationally the Toys for Tots Foundation decided that they wanted to get books into kids hands because you know a lot of them didn’t have access to their school libraries anymore public libraries have been shut down for awhile so this was the perfect opportunity to get books to get who are stuck at home.”
Keeping children’s minds active with reading material is the goal of the toys for tots program.
