Tower technician dies during nighttime climb in Pennington County

CAPUTA S.D. – A man died after falling from a tower in Pennington County.

According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, The accident happened on Jan 10 on the Crown Castle Tower in Caputa on 154th avenue. The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Andrew Psomas, a tower technician from Colorado. He died at the scene.

According to Wireless Estimator, a wireless industry news website, the tower is 190 feet tall. It is not known how far Psomas fell. He was working for a company, True North Tower out of Sauk rapids, Minn.

Psomas made his first tower climb on Jan. 19 of last year.

OSHA and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office are investigating why Psomas fell to his death.
