Top Performer: Jordynn Toliver
Box Elder, S.D. – Jordynn Toliver has had a huge impact on the Douglas Patriots girls basketball team throughout her four years on the varsity team.
Her drive to make no only herself better, but the team as a whole, will leave a lasting impression long after she graduates in May.
Douglas High School Senior Jordynn Toliver grew up in a military family. When she was in the seventh grade, she moved from Germany to Box Elder.
Let’s just say, it was quite a culture shock for Toliver.
“In Germany, they have all the trees and you can walk anywhere you want to go,” Jordynn Toliver said. “If you have a few dollars you can go swimming or anything. So coming here, its a growing town. But it’s definitely different.”
But Toliver has adapted quite well. A determined self motivator, Toliver has been a standout athlete at Douglas High School.
Although, she competes in both softball and track, her true passion is basketball.
“Its really one of those things you get what you put into it,” Toliver said. “So if your out practicing outside the gym and practices, you get better.”
“She’s not real vocal,” Douglas girls basketball coach Duane Wince said. “But she always plays hard and I think she tries to lift up her teammates and be a good example. She has so many tools as a basketball player.”
Toliver has set several girls basketball records at Douglas High School. Earlier this season, she became the school’s all-time leading scorer.
“It would be great if she could be able to score 1,000 points,” Wince said. “We haven’t had a 1,000 point scorer obviously because our career record was 775. So I hope she’s able to do that. That’s a good goal for her and that would be a tough record to break.
While basketball is important to Toliver, she has excelled off the court, as well. Toliver is very active in music and she’s a member of the student council.
“I believe she’s in the top four or top five of her class,” Wince said. “Over 4.0 GPA. She takes hard classes. She pushes herself to excel in those, as well as, basketball and athletics.
After high school, Toliver plans to continue her basketball career in college while majoring in civil or mechanical engineering.
Congratulations to Jordynn Toliver on being named a NewsCenter1 Top Performer.
