Top Performer: Cooper Bowman

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Post 22 American Legion baseball program has had its fair share of success over the years.

One of the players who’s helped the Hardhats reach

new heights recently, is now having success at the next level.

After a stellar career playing for Post 22, Cooper Bowman just completed a successful run at Iowa Western Community College.

As a matter of fact, Bowman played in the Division I JUCO World Series a year ago.

Overall, he put up monster numbers during his time with the Reivers.

Bowman hit .418 with 41 RBIs and five home runs i

n 84 games, even though this season was cut short due to the coronavirus.

“It was a great experience,” Cooper Bowman said. “I’ve talked about it a lot before. I think it was the best baseball decision I’ve ever made going to school there and being a part of great culture. Just something I’ve always loved because of the 22 culture and kind of carried over there. It’s something I’ll never forget. That’s for sure.”

Now Bowman is gearing up to take his talents to the next level and play for the University of Louisville next season.

“It was something I’ve always wanted obviously to play Division I baseball,” Bowman said. “I was suppose to out of high school you know. But I made the decision to go to junior college and of course, I think that worked out for the best. But Louisville is always a school I’ve been interested in. They kind of play my style and that was one thing that stood out to me.”

As he waits to play for the Cardinals next year, Bowman is staying in shape while at home in Rapid City.

The shortstop hopes his experience at the Division I level will eventually help him fulfill his dream of someday playing in the Major Leagues.

“I really want to play professional baseball,”

Bowman said. “Whether that’s after next year at Louisville or whenever that is. I’d love to get the opportunity and make a run for it at least. If something doesn’t work out, of course I have my schooling to fall back on. But may as well try.”

Congratulations to Cooper Bowman on being named a NewsCenter1 Top Performer.

If restrictions allow, Bowman hopes to play this summer in the Northwoods League for the La Crosse Loggers in Wisconsin.
