Tip-A-Cop fundraiser held to raise money for the local Special Olympics

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Members of the Rapid City Police Department and Special Olympic athletes were going table to table Monday night at Outback Steakhouse, severing food while raising awareness and money for the local chapter of the Special Olympics.

One organizer says this is a labor of love. Her father, retired officer Bill Egan, started the Tip-A-Cop event.

“I think its awesome my Dad was actually the one that started the Tip-A-Cop here in Rapid awhile back and did the Polar Plunge,” said Amanda Swanson, Investigator for the Sheriff’s Office and event organizer. “So I love being a part of this it’s been something I’ve grown up to do. I’m really excited to introduce it back into Rapid City, it’s been awhile so it’s something I think that we will have a lot of fun doing.”

All of the proceeds raised Monday go to the local Special Olympics in the Black Hills.
