Tiny House raffle fights homelessness on Pine Ridge Reservation

PORCUPINE, S.D. — On Sunday, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Partnership for Housing, Inc., will be raffling off a “tiny house” to fight homelessness.

The organization, celebrating their 20th year of service, works to help families on the Pine Ridge Reservation maintain homeownership. To fight the housing shortage and overcrowding in existing homes, the organization is exploring a “Tiny House project”.

According to a press release from the OST Partnership, Inc., one of the main costs impacting rural construction is the infrastructure costs associated with new homes. The goal of the project is to place tiny homes next to existing homes to allow families to spread out on a single property.

Seven homes have been built as part of the pilot project. With the initial project, the group will examine the design and make any necessary changes before exploring a second floor-plan.

The home being raffled is a 240 sq. ft., unfinished tiny home. Tickets are on sale for $25.00 for one or $100.00 for five tickets.

For information on purchasing tickets, call OSTPH at 605-867-1555 or 605-867-1325 or stop by #4 Fraggle Rock St. Purchases can also be made via PayPal by using the email, ostph@yahoo.com. The proceeds from ticket sales will be used for planning and future tiny homes.

The winner will be chosen on Sunday during the Porcupine Powwow. You do not have to be present to win.
